Russell is aptly named "The Gladiator" as he is a strong and active dog.  For a breed that was designed to hunt large vermin like Badgers, he is ideal.  He is constantly aware of his surroundings and alerts all when there is anything amiss on the property.

For all of his strength and tenacity, he is incredibly sweet, always ready to give a Sealy kiss, and he loves the girls.  He is not fazed by the weather, note his "mud" picture below.  He loves when the temperatures dip below freezing and runs the back property non-stop without tiring. Such agility runs in the family, his sister, Sophie, has earned many agility and trick titles herself. But, after playing in the snow, he loves a big meal and a long nap.

Russell entered his first show in April 2014 in California and won three 3-point majors over three consecutive days with his handler Bergit Kabel.  He semi-retired due to the move to Ohio. 

 However, once his son Bogart quickly earned his AKC Championship, he felt the need to keep the youngster humble and came out of retirement for one weekend.  He was shown over two consecutive days at the end of 2018 by Margery Good and earned 3-point and a 4-point majors to earn his AKC title.  Five days, five majors and an AKC Champion title, he is something special.
